Jarrod Lyle flew back to Aus- tralia from a golf event in Mexico to be with his wife Briony H arper for the birth of their first child last Tuesday. He had about a week’s break between tournaments. Something had bitten him in Mexico. He had an infec- tion on his arm and had broken out into a rash from the antibiotics. He arrived in Shepparton at Briony’s house about noon. A receptionist from Dr Paul O’Dwyer’s office rang to say they could fit him in for a check-up. Jarrod was worried about the rash. Dr O’Dwyer was Jarrod’s doctor when he was diagno- sed with acute myeloid leuke- mia at 17. It had been two years since he had needed a blood test.
