Ray Sizer's blog

Swedish spelling and chasing Tiger's tail

I forgot to mention yesterday that I had my photo taken with two bobbies (coppers with those funny hats). I couldn't resist asking them to put the cuffs on me and get the golf marshals to take a pic.

Was heading out to find the Lyles when Tiger Woods was heading for the press centre. I did a quick u turn in my new now dirty and dusty pumas and set after him again.
Into the press conference room only to find it jam packed with journos and photographers but every one was asking the standard questions like, using his two iron this week, how he felt without having his father with him (he died this year) and how was his relationship with Nick Faldo.

None of them ask the real question-was he going to have dinner with me at the Haighs place tonight.

The rest of this morning was mostly taken up with Jarrod practising.
He was at the practice range which is across the road at another golf course. He went through all his clubs under the watchful eye of coach Sandy Jamieson.

I was sitting watching when guess who walked by, Tiger Woods.
I think he is stalking me. I may need to get my bobby friends to have a talk with him. I really do think he wants to come to dinner.

Karli Lyle had been sent off in a courtesy car to get some club grips so Jarrod could put some new grips on some of his clubs. Jarrod has access to a courtesy car when he need it and often takes the family with him.

Had lunch in one of the marquees and over heard two guys planning a tournament in Asia in 2008 which is going to be worth 5 million US dollars.

I may have to start practising a bit more.

After lunch the Lyle party was heading back to Liverpool where they are staying for an afternoon of sightseeing.

I'm back in the press centre sitting next to a guy from Sweden and he is asking me how to spell things. He asks if rough had one or two f in it. I really had to think about that one.
I was actually being distracted by the British deal or no deal on TV. Doesn't say much for the media.

Still trying to finish my packed lunch that I was sent out the door with this morning with by Peter and Jenny. It was like going off to school.

On a serious note if I did have an opportunity to ask Tiger a question it would be, perhaps "What advice would you give to a young player playing in his first major?"
It would be interesting to hear what he would have to say.

Tiger just commands respect in everything he does. He seems to be the perfect role model. He signed lots of autographs today. One kid was in shock when he was one of about ten that got autographs after Tigers round.

I have not seen it but apparently Jarrod had a story about himself in The Daily Telegraph today. (Thanks to the Shepp guys you can see it here)

I'm starting to hit a brick wall. Time to go home and have a beer. May go via the village of Hoylake and have a look.

Catch you tomorrow, or is that today. Depends which side of the world you are on.
