Tsunami warning as Jarrod makes a big splash in Hawaii
Serious alert.
Hawaii was put on Tsunami alert after a earthquake registering 8.1 was
recorded in the North East of Japan. The Lyle family was concerned late last night and the only information received was via the weather channel.
The first wave if any was expected to hit at 12.23 am Sat morning.
The Lyles are staying on the ninth floor of the Double Tree Alana about two blocks from the beach. Hotel staff have not issued any warning at this stage.
There has never been a PGA Tour event that has been affected by Tsunami. If a wave does hit it is expected that the 17th par three, that is lined by the pacific Ocean will be the most difficult hole on the course.
Well I must say that this is the first time I have been disappointed with
Jarrod. He had an 8.20 am tee time which meant getting up a 5.30 am for the 6.30 am courtesy car. How bloody inconsiderate of Jarrod for wanting to practice and warm up before his round.
Surely he could be like the rest of us and get up late and get to the course 15 minutes before tee off. My normal warm up is one putt and two pots of beer. But I suppose thats why he is playing for US$5.1 million and we play for a $40 voucher from the pro shop.
I still think the USPGA Tour should have a 12.30 pm shotgun start. I
will have to have a talk to the organisers.
I was sadly depressed this morning. Paris again failed to turn up a tuck me in. I still have three more nights. I never give up hope. My friend Bud Weiser is going talk to his contacts. The Hilton Hotel group buy a lot of Buds products.
When we got to the course, still in the dark I went and got my purple
photographers sticker. I wonder what color it will be tomorrow.
I then went to check if there were more than 3 danishes were the food was. To my surprise there were heaps, and some muffins as well. I love breakfast in America. I ended up eating 7. I though I better leave one or two for the other 100 media.
Can't wait to get back to the Australian PGA at Coolum. They really know how to look after the media.
After that I needed to go to the bathroom. The media share the same
bathrooms as the players in the clubhouse. When I sat down in the cubicle to go about my business some one entered the cubicle beside me. I looked down at the floor and saw a brand new pair of Footjoy golf shoes next to me. It was one of the players. I decided to stop what I was doing. It was only fair on him. Imagine listening to the sweet sounds of dixie coming out of my bottom before trying to play a round of golf. The smell alone would have put him off his game.
I will never know who it was but I hope I helped him make the cut.
The first groups hit off just after daylight at 7.10 am. I decided to go out and watch John Daly for a few holes while Jarrod warmed up. Then had a look at Vijay Singh (he never smiles), Corey Pavin and Stuart Appleby.
Back to the first tee by 8.20 to see Jarrod hit a great drive down the
middle of the first fairway. His second found the bunker and then he missed the putt resulting in a bogey.
At one of the houses along the first fairway there was a 12 year old girl
selling drinks and chips to raise money for the humane society I purchased a pack of chips and thought about asking her if she would donate the money raised to my friend Bud and I. What could be more humane than helping two international friends continue their friendship.
Jarrod went on to have birdies on the 9th, 10th and 5th with bogeys on the 4th, 7th and 15th.
He hit the ball well but ran into a few fairway bunkers along the way and missed a few gettable putts. He was relieved that he was going to make the cut after a few nerves on the last holes. There are some far bigger names in Australian and internationals golf that failed to make the cut.
Jarrods playing partners Juvic Pagunsan from the Philippines finished at +7 and Charlie Wi from Sth Korea both missed the cut.
I had a thought on the way round that if Charlie Wi (pronounced wee) married Michelle Wie (pronounced wee) and hyphenated her name she would be known as Michelle Wi-Wie (Wee-Wee).
After Jarrod finished I went out to follow Michelle Wie for a few holes. It
was obvious why she was here. The 1st fairway was lined six deep just to get a glimpse of her. Not bad for a 17 year old that has never made the cut in the Sony Open or won a Ladies PGA event. She is a good looking but far two young to ask her to come and tuck me in.
Jarrod actually has bigger breasts than her but she has a better and smaller backside.
After lunch at the clubhouse with Sally and John (Leighton and I had
leftovers- caddies and media are not allowed to eat in the clubhouse
restaurant) Jarrod practised for a while. I sat in the shade and and
downloaded some pics. While there I met a security guard that works only one week a year at the Sony Open. He lives the American winter here on his yacht in Pearl Harbour overlooking the memorial and the other six month living on his RV travelling around the mainland.
We then headed back to the hotel. Our driver told us that an animal we had seen at the course was a mongoose. Sally asked if they had snakes in Hawaii which he replied no.
Also on the way back Jarrod opened his box of new shirts from his sponsor, Grand Slam. And they stuffed up the order. There were none that would fit me, unbelievable how many times does a man have to ask for freebies.
All the stories are coming out now. Sally just said that she once kissed
Fred Couples and she thinks he is a sex god.
Had a support Jarrod message come through thelylefile.com.au today from Scott Mayoh who is living in London. I repeat it word for word-
Comments: G' day Mate,
Congratulations on your first rd on the tour. I am an aussie living in
London and thought I would just check how you went today.
All the best for the rest of the tournament.
PS - You old man's blog is not a bad read. Im pretty sure Mr Budweiser had got the best of him by the end of it!!!
You bloody idiot- I'm not his dad, I just suck up to him so I can go away on golf trips and get my company to pay for some of it. Besides I'm only half the man John is and I'm far more attractive and carry bigger equipment. Just ask Paris or Catherine. I think you have been bending the arm to much with Mr John Smith Smooth, who I met a at a pub at the British Open last year, he had different characteristics than Bud Weiser but was still very good to talk too.
Speaking of Bud we have been catching up while I write this and watching the golf on TV. Very relaxing. Will need to go out for dinner soon and of course Bud will be invited. I will probably sent him home without coming in for a nightcap. I wonder if he has a sister that could come out for dinner with us. She may be able to tuck me in, but I wouldn't want to be caught with another women if Paris comes by, but then again Paris may enjoy that.
I know I would.
Went for dinner at the burger place down the road. Decided to have the Calamari burger tonight. We were served by a waitress that had dreadlocks in her hair. I had a quick look for for rats before asking if I could take a picture of her. I only had my small equipment with me but she started to get concerned when I started flashing her.
Catch you all tomorrow. Its been another great day for GV golf.
Go Jarrod. Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi.
