At Home.
Monday, May 3 – Sunday, May 9
We had another week at home in Orlando this week, so we had time to catch up on the laundry and enjoy some home-cooked meals.
On Tuesday night we were invited to an Orlando Magic basketball game with another Aussie expat.
The atmosphere in the arena was absolutely electric, with the entire crowd behind the home team, which won by 40 points, and absolute silence when the opposition scored.
Our seats were about four rows back from the court, so we got to see how big some of the players really are.
Jarrod spent several days practising at Grand Cypress, although he did not play any rounds.
I accompanied him twice to the course, and helped to set up different chipping and putting drills.
Due to my limited knowledge of golf, apparently some of the things that I ask him to do are impossible or really challenging – especially some of the bunker shots when I throw the balls in – but I figure he’s a professional and should be able to play everything.
He has admitted that his putting and confidence around the green has really improved, so maybe I’m doing something right!
There was another big golf tournament, The Players Championship, on television this week that was taking place elsewhere in Florida.
We spent several hours glued to the TV, cheering for Robert Allenby as he closed in on the leader in the final round.
All of the attention was again on Tiger Woods, who withdrew in round four and subsequently announced his coach has quit.
We will be travelling for the next two weeks, which may become three or four in a row depending on how Jarrod finishes each tournament.
There are Nationwide events in South Carolina and North Carolina, and PGA events in San Antonio and Dallas, both in Texas in the two-week period.
We spent some time this week organising flights, cars and accommodation for all four events, which is not an easy task.
Fortunately we received confirmation on Friday that Jarrod has qualified for the PGA field in the Texas Open in San Antonio next week, but his performance alone will determine where we travel the week after.
I am happy to report that Loowee the Gator has reappeared down the road, so now I only go in that direction if I’m in the car!
>>> Briony Harper is travelling on the road with long-time boyfriend and professional golfer Jarrod Lyle for the first time this year as his business manager.
